I have long been wanting to try Wendy's since their opening late last year (December 2009) but with only one branch at Lau Pa Sat Festival Market, it was a little out of the way for me and don't even mention about the long queue which was deterrant enough to stop me from making my way there.
Hence, imagine my joy when I learnt of the new branch at Jurong Point! I arrived at the restaurant earlier, hoping to beat the lunch crowd but to my surprise, there wasn't any. I'm not sure if it's due to the rain or if I'm there a tad too early? I got served the very moment I stepped in because there wasn't anyone in the queue at all. Basically, I had the whole restaurant to myself.
The only companion I had were the two flies that were having designs on my burger.
Can you spot one of them in the photo below? The absence of a crowd wasn't the only thing that surprised me. I think this was the smallest fast-food restaurant I had ever visited. Due to the capacity of the premises, there were only two rows of bartop tables with high stools. There's no room for even ONE table. This was my order - a 1/4lb single with cheese, medium Fries, Coke and a serving of Chilli. Enjoying my lunch and staring out at the raining sidewalk. Now, that's life.
Presenting... my 1/4lb single with cheese! Okay, comparing it to the picture in the menu, the one I had looked so... unloved. It was my first time having Chilli, which is made of minced beef, beans and bits of tomatoes. The beans fills me up just after a few spoonfuls.
Honestly, I find the patty in my burger a little dry and the bun's texture a little coarse too. Halfway through with my burger, I was already feeling quite full and I had to struggle with the remaining burger. Finally subdued the burger! But there's still the Fries and Chilli to conquer...
The Fries were lightly salted just the way I like it. It was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The Chilli was S$2.50 so that makes my Burger, Fries and drink S$7.65. Pretty much standard fast-food pricing.
Although Wendy's was here in Singapore during the 1980's, I had no remembrance of it at all. All thanks to The Kopitiam Group for bringing Wendy's back! Now, can they bring A&W back too?
