| | Remember Wander? She made the headlines in January earlier this year after she was disfigured by a China worker who hit her repeatedly on the face with a metal chain. Unfortunately, the assailant rode away on a bicycle before someone could get him. Read her story here.
I have been following Wander's recovery updates via Mdm Wong's Shelter Facbook ever since I got to know about this incident. Her horrific ordeal has brought much tears to my eyes and I could never fathom how anyone could inflict such pain upon a helpless stray? My heart goes out to this poor little girl whose road to recovery was a slow and painful one. Everyday, I would log into Facebook and one of the things I would do is to check for her updates. I will be in a merry mood if I learn that she ate a little more than the previous day but my heart would sink with her, if her condition has not improved. Keeping up with her progress was like an emotional roller coaster ride for me! Last night, however, I was shattered to read the update that Wander will be euthanised today (Sunday, 5th of March). No, Wander's caregivers did not take the easy way out and give up on her but she was diagnosed with a cancerous growth on her face due to an infection of the wound. Despite her caregivers' efforts to minimize her pain and sufferings, the painful decision to let her go was made after reviews with two vets yielded the same results - that her quality of life was compromised. Although I balk at the idea of euthanasia, her caregivers would be in a better position to decide what's best for Wander having taken care of her the past few months. Wander, you are a fighter.
Though we have never actually met, your story has truly inspired me!
I find comfort in the fact that you were surrounded by the people who loved and genuinely cared for you before your demise.
Run along now, for you are no longer burdened with the risks and fears living the wretched life of a stray...
